Foreword by Clyde Haberman

As one of the preeminent interviewers of our time, Claudia Dreifus crisscrosses the globe to interview an eclectic selection of the world's most powerful and interesting women and men, the people whose opinions will shape our future. Dreifus's interviews, by the subjects she chooses and the questions she asks, depict her own forceful vision of our times, as well as that of those she interviews.

Interview is a cornucopia of interviews with leading writers, generals and politicians, television newscasters and actors, spiritual leaders and famous spouses. The book is divided into six sections: "Saints," "Visionaries," "Media Freaks," "Warriors," "Poets," and "Citizens." It includes interviews with The Dalai Lama, Aung San Suu Kyi, Andrew Young, Esther Dyson, The Tofflers, Art Caplan, Cokie Roberts/Nina Totenberg/Linda Wertheimer, Dan Rather, Richard Dreyfuss, Samuel Jackson, Colin Powell, Gen. John Shalikashvili, Benazir Bhutto, Joycelyn Elders, Serge and Beate Klarsfeld, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Toni Morrison, Arthur Miller, Nadine Strossen, Barney Frank, and Myrlie Evers. The paperback edition includes additional interviews with Isabel Allende, Julian Bond, Gloria Steinem, Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner.

“Expertly written, these minidramas will rivet anyone interested in human nature and the intricacies of how people communicate.”

“Claudia Dreifus is one of the world's great interviewers and a superb writer … Being interviewed by Claudia Dreifus is like playing tennis with Steffi Graf: do your best, and you'll learn a lot; any thing less, and she'll pave the court with you.”

“Altogether, Dreifus's book is a clinic in the interviewer craft [and] a treat for journalists everywhere who refuse to take no, or silence or evasion, for an answer.”

“She charms, she razzes … she asks obvious questions that often yield fascinating answers … [an] engaging book.”
