Barry Gifford will speak at Columbia College Story Week 2014 on Tuesday, March 18th at 2pm to discuss his newest story collection, The Roy Stories, among several other of his many accomplished works.

Spanning time and space—the Southern and Midwestern United States from the 1940s through the early 1960s—The Roy Stories chronicle the personal history of Gifford from Chicago to the deep south, reminiscent of Hemingway’s Nick Adams stories. Emotional, exploratory, and brimming with photographic realism.

BARRY GIFFORD, called “a master of the short story” by the New York Times Book Review, is the author of more than forty published works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, which have been translated into twenty-eight languages.

Barry Gifford will be at Book Cellar on Thursday, October 10th, 2013 at 7:00pm to discuss his newest collection, The Roy Stories.

For forty years, the Roy stories have been the one continuous unbroken line in the otherwise kaleidoscopic career of one of America’s greatest living writers, Barry Gifford. Spanning time and space—the Southern and Midwestern United States from the 1940s through the 1980s—The Roy Stories chronicle the personal history of Gifford from Chicago to Miami in a Hemingway style Nick Adams story. Emotional, exploratory, and brimming with photographic realism,  these stories are just that: stories, not memoir or autobiography, and a record of the times and the language of the time.

Barry Gifford, called “a master of the short story” by the New York Times Book Review, is the author of more than forty published works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, which have been translated into twenty-eight languages.
