    July 16, 2013

In a July 14 blog post, “Justice for Trayvon Martin,” Luis J. Rodriguez used the George Zimmerman verdict as a luis-rodriguezlaunchpad to discuss the more widespread issue of racial profiling in the United States.

“The injustices in the face of the current justice system are so palpable and patterned,” Rodriguez says. White police officers and civilians are granted self-defense verdicts or given prison sentences under a year for involuntary manslaughter convictions, while in juvenile lockup facilities many black or brown-skinned inmates who were uninvolved but present at the scene of  killings are going to prison for 25 years to life.

“It’s time to change the conversation,” Rodriguez writes. “No more of our youth, of any color, should be profiled, sought and then killed the way Trayvon was killed.
