  • Science fiction goes virtual with Octavia E. Butler

    Open Road Media will publish 10 titles from sci-fi writer Octavia E. Butler, including the Nebula Award-winning Parable of the Talents, bringing all the titles to e-books for the first time. The e-books will include an illustrated biography featuring never before seen photos. The deal was made by Betsy Mitchell, Open Road’s strategic adviser for science fiction and fantasy. The other titles are: Parable of the Sower, Wild Seed, Mind of My Mind, Clay’s Ark, Patternmaster, Dawn, Adulthood Rites, Imago, and Bloodchild.


    Looks like Seven Stories will have some new ebooks coming to the shelf.

    Huntington Library acquires Octavia Butler’s papers

    Butler was described by the Washington Post as “a master storyteller who casts an unflinching eye on racism, sexism, poverty, and ignorance and lets the reader see the terror and the beauty of human nature.” ... In 1995 she became the first Science Fiction writer to receive MacArthur "Genius" grant. “Butler’s books are exceptional,” writes author Dorothy Allison. “She is a realist, writing the most detailed social criticism and creating some of the most fascinating female characters in the genre...real women caught in impossible situations.”
