The People Speak, the documentary based on Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove’s Voices of a People’s History, will premiere on History in 2009. If you don’t recall our earlier coverage of The People Speak, the film features dramatic readings from the documents that helped to make up Voices from a People’s History—the letters, articles, advertisements, and personal recollections of people who truly lived the day-to-day history of America. The texts are brought to life by some of America and the world’s greatest and most celebrated performers, including Matt Damon, Chris Moore, Bruce Springsteen, Don Cheadle, Alison Moorer, and many more.
An announcement of the deal can be found here. Congratulations to Anthony Arnove and to the entire Voices from a People’s History organization—the voices of the people who lived the life of America need to be heard, and this is a major step toward making people aware of the history of struggle—of individual voices of conscience—that underlay the official history of the United States.
