Joel Berg in ForeWord Magazine: U.S. government must eradicate hunger
March 20, 2009
[Berg] insists that charitable organizations, no matter how vigorous their efforts, can at best only stave off death by starvation. Food insecurity in the United States is a function of scale, and only the government is in a position to eradicate hunger. In Berg’s view, it is one of government’s fundamental responsibilities. In the sense of having faith in government’s ability to solve big social problems with policy initiatives and programs, Berg is a traditional liberal. He persistently pins the nation’s core problems on rising inequality, writing, “No society in the history of the world has sustained itself in the long run with as much inequality of wealth as exists in America.” — ForeWord Magazine
