While editing the stories in Live Through This: On Creativity and Self-Destruction, I noticed a series of themes inherent in the essays. Shame, political consciousness, isolation, power versus control: these are just some of the topics that are inherent in anyone’s self-destructive journey. This reading/multi-media lecture is an incredible introduction to the book and the themes that appear in between the lines of each artists’ story. It consists of short readings, a 45 minute multi-media lecture, and a Q&A that always prompts an interesting dialogue on mental illness, creativity, self-destruction and gender.
On April 25th, Sabrina Chapadijev will be lecturing on Live Through This: On Creativity and Self-Destruction (sponsored by Poets and Writers). The discussion will be at the School of the Art Institute (Room 1307, 112 South Michigan Avenue) at 4pm, and is FREE to all.
